My name is Maria Ambriz, I am 17 years old. I was born on July 23rd,1999 in Uriangato Guanajuato. I am a very caring person. I try to help people out when I can. I also try to always have a smile on my face, mainly because I personally do not like being seen sad. My family and I moved to Lindsay back in 2007 when I was only 7 years old. I started school at Lincoln Elementary and that is where my journey began. I was excited to live in the United States, however little did I know that along with that excitement there was struggles that I had to face. One of the struggles that was the hardest for me to over come was learning English as my second language. When I was first enrolled in this school district I had to go to Lincoln Elementary. It was hard to communicate with my classmates and teachers because most of them did not speak Spanish. My teacher spoke Spanish, however she refused to speak to me in Spanish because she knew how important it was for me to learn English. When I was in second grade I refused to keep going to school because it was hard for me to learn English and do well in my classes. I would often fake sick so that I could go home. I would also skip school, I would convince my brother to not go to school so we could stay home and sleep in. However my parents always encouraged me to attend school. After a while of trying in various ways not go to to school, I then realized that it is for my own good. I am extremely thankful that my parents pushed me to go to school, because now I am a senior and I am getting ready to pursue a higher education. I come from a migrant family, it is very important for me to graduate and make my parents and family proud.
